A method of hacking the iPhone has been developed which will allow users to choose their cellular provider and not be restricted to AT&T. Although this may be good news to frustrated iPhone users, it's believed that Apple will lose out big time. It also seems that the hack itself works flawlessly, and even an iPhone restore wont remove it (it can be removed but it ain't easy).

Unfortunately, it's not all good news for the end user either. Apple was smart enough to force iPhone owners to provide their cell phone number when applying for the voucher (offered to early iPhone buyers who were unhappy with the $200 price drop). What does this mean? Well, if your number isn't an AT&T number, you ain't getting your voucher!

As you can tell from the image below, the Kindle isn't the most attractive gadget on the planet. But the 80s looks aside, it's probably the only e-book reader that comes close to being any good. Priced at $399, the Kindle is set to re-ignite interest in e-books with its wireless connectivity, cheap e-book prices and newspaper subscription capabilities.
The unit itself is very functional and as soon as you use the device, its obvious Amazon spent a lot of time on attention to detail.
For example, the unit is very comfortable to hold with the thickness tapering off from left to right. The buttons are also well placed and the scroll bar/select wheel combination a great innovation. The display itself is amazingly similar to ink on paper, resulting in an extremely comfortable read that's easy on the eyes.
In terms of filling your Kindle with content, the wireless capabilities of the device allows for the user to buy directly from the Amazon store without the use of a computer. The store itself has more than 100,000 titles available, so no matter what you read, it's bound to be available. Of course, it doesn't stop at e-books. One can also subscribe to newspaper and magazines, which are delivered wirelessly to the device. All the top U.S. newspapers including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post are available - top magazines including TIME, Atlantic Monthly, and Forbes.
All this said, there are some issues with the Kindle that worry me. Firstly, the device can sometimes be slow to respond, which can potentially be very frustrating. On top of this, the Kindle has no back-lighting so you can't read in the dark (but you can't read a normal book in the dark either). Also, seeing as the device is electronic, it can be a hassle if you want to read while taking off or landing on a plane trip (typically, no electronic devices are allowed to be turned on). Similarly, if you enjoy reading in the bath, then the Kindle probably isn't for you.
Negatives aside, there is nothing seriously wrong with this device. It is revolutionary and has proven to be very popular - and I can understand why.
